In Bali

If you are a visitor to Bali, you may be interested in the fashion scene here. Bali has often been described as “The Island of opportunities”, and the indisputable business potential of manufacturing clothing for export and also for local retail has been attracting entrepreneurs, fashion designers and globetrotters for over three decades. The Balinese are accomplished craftsmen and their labour is engaged by a number of the large international designer companies.

There has been an obvious in Bali’s fashion industry over the years-the perennial batik rayon sundresses and shirts on sale in the market stalls are available, but there is now a huge influx of expensive boutiques, chic designer shops and fine shoemakers.

Among the attractions for the international fashion houses and designers are the amazing dyeing techniques, of which the famous batik process is just one. There processes include bleaching, Tye-dyeing, dipping, painting and waxing. The Balinese love to work by hand and many of the garments are finished with highly decorative applications including Swarovski crystals, stones, diamante jewels, beads, sequins and embroidery.

The Bale at Villa M Bali

In the garden of Bali Villa M, is a Balinese bale. This open-air pavilion on its elevated platform is situated poolside, adjacent to the rice fields. Sheltered by a roof and supported by pillars, the bale is an enchanting, lazy, breezy gazebo where you might chill out with a book. There are many different types of bale in Bali, and each fulfils a specific function in Balinese Hindu society. For example, the bale Bali is a ceremonial pavilion, the bale banjar is a communal meeting place, and the bale kul kul is a drum tower.

The bale in the garden at Villa M in Bali is a bale bengong. The Balinese word ‘bengong’ means ‘lost thought’, and ‘bale’ means an abode, so a bale bengong is literally a ‘contemplation house’, designed for reflection, dreaming and gazing. For the Balinese it might be a roadside snoozing platform or a watch tower. It is the perfect place to enjoy a massage, or it can be a quiet spot to escape and practice yoga, or sleep in the fresh air. Furnished with cushions it is somewhere to hang out with a friend, to talk and eat together, or sip a cocktail at sunset.

Enjoy relaxing in the bale bengong at Bali private luxury Villa M.
